What I’ve learned as a first-time mom

Where has the time gone? Almost 9 months ago, I became a mother to an adorable baby boy who never ceases to amaze me.

It’s been a whirlwind since we took him home from the hospital. Plenty of joy, including the first laughs (I think we got more joy out of that than Dylan did), and plenty of tears (I won’t say from whom).

It feels like each day has been a lesson. Here’s just a few of them:

1) When in doubt, food is the answer.

2) All the expensive toys in the world will be ignored for my cell phone.

3) The end of a toothbrush is a much coveted teething toy. Ironically enough.

4) Dogs are hilarious to babies. It doesn’t matter if they’re sneezing or eating or licking your entire face.

5) The minute after I fall asleep, my son will wake up. Without a doubt.

6) If it can fit in my son’s mouth, it will go in my son’s mouth. And even if it can’t, it will still go in his mouth.

7) Water is awesome. Water faucet turned on = happy baby.

8) Nothing is as fascinating as the dog’s dish.

9) Baths are temporary. 5 minutes later, and this happens:

10) Every new lesson gets changed a day later when he learns something new. And that’s why I love being a mom.
